Our History
Ethos Movies began with a student project movie produced by Founder James Moran with a volunteer group of forty-five cast and fifteen crew members back in 1995-1996 with only a few hundred dollars, a super VHS camera lit like film, and a standing ovation by the student body that inspired the founder to believe that he could make more than just student films. This was transitional for the founder as he went from being an actor to being a director and writer.
The founder spent almost twenty years immersing himself in the films of the classic era, film-making and script-writing, while managing multi-million dollar projects for one of the world's largest banks. With various degrees and education in operations, finance, business and broadcast law, music and television production, the founder set out to create a movie studio in the upstate area of South Carolina.
As a writer, James Moran was influenced by the writing styles and techniques of writers such as Tolkien, Bunyan, Lewis, Hitchcock, Doyle, Dumas, Campbell, Stevenson, Montgomery, Hawthorne, Dickens, Wilde, London, Defoe, White, Alcott, Austen, Twain, Price, Dickinson, Verne, Buchan, and Edward Stratemeyer (and his Stratemeyer Syndication). Finally and most importantly the Jewish writers, apostles, and prophets of the Hebrew Bible (or Tanakh) and the New Testament Scriptures have been the greatest influence and template for his writing and its style.

Ethos Movies is dedicated to producing innovative motion pictures, historical documentaries, as well as commercial and educational productions. Our mission is to offer family-friendly, adventurous and informative movies based upon extremely well-developed, high-quality scripts. To us, the script is key, and to those who have differed over the years on whether great movies are those which stir the heart or which shake the audience with action and special effects, we prefer to have both. A little stirring. A little shaking. It's all in the making.
